Artist Ernst Gamperl’s “Tree of Life Project” comprises around 100 wooden objects – sculptural vessels in various shapes and sizes – made from the wood of a 230-year-old oak tree. The series is the outcome of years of exploring both material and form. At the outset of his career, Gamperl already developed his signature artistic language – one that goes beyond the usual rules and conventions. He has radically revitalised the historical technique of woodturning, updating it for the present day. The MK&G will be dedicating an exhibition to the wood turner from 22 November 2025 to 26 April 2026 as part of the series “Contemporary Craft”, which showcases the work of contemporary craftspeople.

Das „Lebensbaumprojekt“ des Künstlers Ernst Gamperl umfasst rund 100 Holzobjekte – skulpturale Gefäße in unterschiedlichen Formen und Größen – die aus einer 230 Jahre alten Eiche gestaltet wurden. Die Werkserie ist das Ergebnis einer jahrelangen Auseinandersetzung mit Material und Form. Bereits zu Beginn seiner Laufbahn entwickelte Ernst Gamperl eine ganz eigene künstlerische Sprache – jenseits gängiger Regeln und Konventionen. Die historische Technik des Drechselns hat er radikal erneuert und in die Gegenwart geführt. Vom 22. November 2025 bis 26. April 2026 präsentiert das MK&G die Arbeiten des Holzgestalters in der Ausstellungsreihe „Contemporary Craft“, die zeitgenössische Positionen im Kunsthandwerk vorstellt.
